Why You Might Want to Try Linux (WYMWTTLinux) is a series of posts around the same topic – Ubuntu Linux.

To access a shared folder from a Windows computer in a network, simply type in your Nautilus’ address bar …

smb://192.168.0.2/

smb stands for Server Message Block , and is said to be where the name Samba came from. Samba is the open source file and printer sharing network protocol that runs on most UNIX-based systems.

If all goes well, you’ll be able to see all shared folders of that computer and the folders will look something like this:

You’ll be prompted for a password for the folders that are password-protected, like in Windows.

Every shared folder you open appears as, again, a mounted volume – it appears on your desktop too. So do be careful, because if you went on a folder-opening spree you’ll be cleaning up the mess later. :D
