Accessing FileSystem of A200 Phones

Posted by: liquidskinn on: November 12, 2008

Yey! The long wait is over for those A200 phone owners (myself included), because finally! WE can edit fonts, add new flash menus and do some other modding stuff to make our phones even more sexier.

A200 phones you ask? Here’s a not-yet-quite-updated list of those phones, so you know if yours is included:

-k660

- w890

- w980

- w760

- z750

- c902

- c702

- c905

- w902

- w595

and some more others. :D

So, let’s get down to business then!! For this tutorial, you’ll be needing:

- your phone ofcourse! fully charged.

- USB cable

- A2Uploader application (it’s for free, don’t worry).

To start,

** download a2uploader from here

** extract the files to anywhere. To make your life a little easier, I suggest you extract it to your desktop instead.

** run the DPInst.exe file inside the USBFlash_driver folder. This will install the drivers necessary.

** Once successful, the A2Uploader.exe’s icon should now look like this:

icon should change to this

icon should change to this

** Double click it to run A2Uploader. Here’s what it should look like:

for this part, please make sure that your phone is 100% charged, or at least 80 to 90% charged. :D

** Turn your phone off

** connect your USB cable to your PC, but don’t connect your phone yet

** click the FileSystem tool button (see image)

** You’ll see that you have to Hold the ‘C’ button then connect your USB cable. Do that. Got it? click the FileSystem tool button first, then press and hold on the C button and connect the USB cable.

** don’t let the C button go, unless you see that the Status window is starting to fill up. You’ll know it’s successful when you see the folders outlined in the other window,(see image).

** And that’s it. From here on, you can go about doing what you’re supposed to do like add and delete files. :D While in here, you can:

01 change the menu icons
- this requires a more outlined discussion, since I think that the menu layout of A200 phones has at least some differences from other platforms.

02 add new flash menus
- go to /tpa/preset/system/desktop/flash/ and dump the flash menus that you want to use here.

03 remove preinstalled games

- go to /tpa/preset/system/ams. When removing the games, you should remove the .jad and .jar files there. It’ll be easy to distinguish what from which. :D

To delete, press the Delete button on your keyboard. There is no Delete button there obviously.

04 install new drivers and acoustics
- to do this, go to /ifs/settings/acoustic for the acoustic drivers, or /ifs/settings/camera for the camera drivers.

Please note that before you do this, you should have your phone’s original acoustic and camera drivers first, so that if something goes wrong, you can revert them back to the originals.

05 change the font
- go to /tpa/preset/system/font. Aside from the Fonts you’d like to use, you should also have an edited fonts.xml, to match with the fonts that you want to use.

Please don’t delete the original font. Keep it there, so you can always revert back. ANd you should have the default fonts.xml too.

As for patching, flashing of firmware and ELFs, there’s no news for that yet, but rest assured, when I get wind of that, I’ll let you know right away. :D
** OnceĀ  you’re done cleaning up and all, click the Shutdown FS manager button below the explorer window(see pic) then click Quit to close the application.

** Then, you can take the plug off from your phone. Take theĀ  battery cover off, the battery off, wait for a few seconds then put it back again and turn it on.

There really isn’t a big deal with this because you’re not really doing anything dead serious yet. You’re just adding and deleting files.

[...] ** then, upload this file to your phone and place it inside tpa/preset/custom. If you don’t know how to do that, please read my other post about Accessing Filesystem of A200 Phones. [...]

oop forgot to mention I’m refering to the W980 phone..
