Sony Ericsson’s New Naming Convention

Ever had that experience where someone tells you the model name of the phone and then you start wondering what the hell it looked like? You don’t even have an idea of what it is – is it a clamshell? Does it come packed with features that can be found in high end phones?

Well folks, you won’t be facing this problem no more, not for Sony Ericssons at least. They deviced a new way of naming their future models (some of the models already follow this new naming convention) so that it’ll be easier for us cellphone addicts. WE can at least have an idea, and not be in the dark.

And so, to explain the new naming convention…

for example:

G – first character. Denotes series and can be either (W) walkman, (R) Radio*, (C) Cybershot, (G) GEneration Web**, (S) Snapshot***

7 - second character. Denotes range or class. Can be (9,8) High End, (7,6,5) Mid Range, (4,3,2,1) Low end

0 – third character. Denotes version. First versions are zero, succeeding versions are number from 1, 2, and so on.

2 – fouth character. Denotes form factor, can be (0,1,2) Candybar (3,4,5) Slider (6,7,8) Clamshell Flip (9) Others

So, when someone says it’s G900, it means that the phone is a Generation Web phone, high end, first version and is a candybar.

Pretty cool and useful right? :) No more wondering what the model actually is.
